‘Your foot’s starting to jump a little bit – you better get to your next question’: Robert Downey Jr walks out on C4 News

By William Turvill

Actor Robert Downey Jr walked out of an interview with Channel 4 News yesterday when his interviewer strayed off the topic of his latest movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After Krishnan Guru-Murthy asked about a quote he'd given The New York Times, about being a "liberal", Downey said: "Um, are we promoting a movie?"

Guru-Murthy explained that he would like to ask other questions as well: "I mean, you say… we're promoting the movie. Obviously you're doing a promotional round of interviews, and that's why we're talking about the movie. But we also would like to talk a little bit about you, and I don't how comfortable you are talking about yourself at the moment… let me just ask you a few more questions and you can answer them if you want to, and not if you don't want to."

Downey was then recorded looking to someone off-screen who spoke to the presenter. Guru-Murthy said in the video that there are three minutes left to record the interview "on our agreement".

Downey says: "Your foot's starting to jump a little bit – you better get to your next question." The actor then sat, breathing heavily and staring at Guru-Murthy as he asked about his relationship with his father and "dark periods".

Downey: "What are we doing?"

Guru-Murthy: "Well, I'm just asking questions, that's all."

Downey: "Bye."
