US State Department-funded broadcaster Voice of America has signed a deal with British owned news agency Splash to win hearts and minds in the Middle East and Developing World by beaming them the latest celebrity news.
Splash News and Pictures has signed a licensing deal to supply Voice of America with a weekly half hour TV show.
This means millions of viewers in the Middle East, Asia and Africa will have access to the latest news about the adventures of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian via the US government-funded broadcasting network.
The show is already aired online and, according to Splash, generates 300 million downloads a year.
Splash CEO Gary Morgan said: “We are delighted to forge this important partnership with Voice of America, one of the world’s most respected broadcasters and look forward to a long and successful association with this outstanding media organisation. We are confident that the vast Voice of America audiences will enjoy the expansive celebrity news generated by our content service.”
Voice of America says it broadcasts 1,500 hours of news, information, educational and cultural programming every week to what it claims is an estimated worldwide audience of 125 million.
