The BBC's Robert Peston has been confirmed as the new political editor of ITV News.
Peston succeeds new ITV News at Ten anchor Tom Bradby and will, as part of his role, host a new Sunday programme, Peston on Sunday.
ITV said in a statement: "Having established a reputation as one of Britain's most interesting bloggers and users of social media, his political journalism will feature at the heart of ITV News' website and social media outlets."
Peston has been economics editor of the BBC since October 2013 and was business editor for eight years before that.
He said: "I am very excited by ITV's plans to create a distinctive and authoritative new voice in news and political coverage.
"Leaving the wonderful BBC has been the hardest career decision of my life, but it's impossible to turn down an opportunity like this.”
Michael Jermey, ITV's director of news and current affairs, and ITV News editor Geoff Hill both said they were "delighted" by the move.
Peston started his journalism career at Investors Chronicle and also worked for The Independent, Independent on Sunday, Financial Times – where he was political editor, financial editor, banking editor and as head of the investigations unit – and Sunday Telegraph. He has also been an associate editor of The Spectator and a columnist for The Times, Sunday Times and New Statesman.
