Questions for BBC over Jenny Bond timeshare promo

By Dominic Ponsford

BBC1 series Rip Off Britain dropped a segment about a timeshare company which has been promoted by presenter Jenny Bond, the Daily Mirror reveals today.

Investigative reporters Andrew Penman and Nick Sommerlad report that they have been contacted by ‘dozens of unhappy customers’of timeshare giant Club La Costa.

Customers complain about ‘its habit of telling people they’ve won a free holiday – which will include a mammoth timeshare sales pitch”.

According to Penman and Sommerlad, the Independent Timeshare Consumers Association gets on average one complaint a day about CLC.

The Association’s chairman Sandy Grey was reportedly interviewed on camera about CLC for Rip-Off Britain but the segment was not shown.

A BBC spokesman told the Daily Mirror: ‘It is common for various story ideas to be considered for a series of this nature and clearly not everything makes it into the programme.”

Former BBC TV royals correspondent Bond is quoted on the CLC website saying: ‘Club La Costa’s exclusive club really is in a class of its own.”

The Mirror reports that Bond did not respond to a request for a comment.
