Panorama editor moves to The One Show

By Oliver Luft

Panorama executive editor Sandy Smith has been appointed to a new role on BBC1 magazine programme The One Show.

Smith will become The One Show’s executive editor replacing Tessa Finch who is moving to become head of development with BBC Vision Productions.

He moves to the daily programme in the New Year after three years leading the BBC’s current affairs flagship during which the show moved to its new primetime BBC One slot and the arrival of Jeremy Vine as host.

Smith, who has been at the BBC since 1988, was editor of current affairs series Watchdog before joining Panorama.

Liam Keelan, controller of BBC Daytime, said: “The One Show is an incredibly important programme for BBC One – Sandy’s experience will be the ideal fit as we look to continue the show’s great success.”

The One Show has become one of BBC1’s most successful early-evening shows since it began more than two years ago; it now draws up to five million viewers.
