Notts TV confirms 27 May start date to become fourth local TV launch

By Press Gazette

Nottingham is to become the fourth town in the UK to have a local television channel on Freeview channel 8 – with the consortium involved announcing a 27 May launch date at 4pm.
Notts TV is a collaboration between the Nottingham Post Media Group, Nottingham Trent University, Confetti Media Group and Inclusive Digital. It was among the 19 winning bidders picked by Ofcom across the UK in October 2012 in its first phase of local TV licensing.
It will deliver daily news, sport, weather and history and documentary programmes as well as music and comedy.
Notts TV director Nigel Dacre said: "The news will really distinguish us from other channels, but we will also be providing a range of different programmes, covering the arts, sports and even history," he said.
"We have been working on a series called Nottingham Now and Then, which has already been looking into the history of trams in the city, the Lace Market, the castle and the role Nottingham played in the First World War."
"If we are successful with the early programming, we then will be able to expand our time on air. We haven't put a date on that goal but the more successful we are, the more programming we will be able to deliver.
"Nottingham has a definite identity and a definite feel. You get the sense when you come to the city that people really identify with the community and we want Notts TV to reflect and match that local feeling."
Notts TV follows Estuary TV in Grimsby, Mustard TV in Norwich and the newly launched London Live, which began broadcasts in the capital last night.
