Matthew Wright has decided to leave Channel 5’s weekday current affairs programme The Wright Stuff after 18 “glorious” years.
Wright has hosted the topical chat show since it began on 11 September 2000 and said he has chosen to leave for new challenges.
He said today: “After almost 18 glorious years on Channel 5 and with the show flying high in the ratings, I feel it’s time to depart and try my hand at something new.”
Wright tweeted earlier that there was a “big, big announcement coming”.
The flagship Channel 5 show airs between 9.15am and 11.15am every weekday morning as Wright discusses topical issues with guests.
The show aired today as normal, with guest Dr Christian Jessen talking about sex education and social media.
Ben Frow, director of programmes at Channel 5, said: “We would like to thank Matthew for his passion, hard work and enthusiasm over the last 18 years and for making the show what it is today. He will be sorely missed and we wish him all the very best for the future.”
A statement from Channel 5 said more information would be announced in due course.
