Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Katz concedes a ‘#fail’ in closing Newsnight credits over ‘boring’ tweet

By William Turvill

Ian Katz appeared to issue another apology to MP Rachel Reeves last night by conceding a “#fail” under his name in the final credits of Newsnight.

Katz landed himself in hot water on Monday night by accidentally sending a tweet describing Reeves, a guest on Newsnight, as “boring”.

The tweet, meant by Katz to be a private message, said: "Tnks … except for boring snoring rachel reeves … playout was fun tho, wasn't it? telly MUCH netter [sic] than snooooozepapers innit"

After offering an apology to Reeves on Twitter, the former Guardian man also wrote a letter to Labour over the tweet.

Finally, last night’s closing credit for Newsnight read: “Newnight editor @iankatz1000 #fail”.

The BBC said no further action will be taken against Katz, who took over as Newsnight editor last week.
