Former glamour model Katie Price has been asked to guest edit Radio 4’s flagship Today programme, according to reports.
Guest editors are invited to take part in the show every year, between Christmas and New Year, to inspire its broadcasts over the holiday season.
The television star turned bestselling author, formerly known as Jordan, could follow in the footsteps of previous guest editors Norman Tebbit, Richard Branson and Bono, according to The Times.
A spokesman for Price described the idea as “intriguing” and told the paper: “It would be a great project. There is more to Katie than meets the eye.”
Crime writer PD James made headlines in her stint as a guest editor last year when she interviewed BBC boss Mark Thompson and took him to task over high levels of executive pay at the corporation.
A spokeswoman for Today said: “We haven’t finalised the line up for this year yet.”
An announcement on the guest editors, who will work with BBC staff to produce between a third and a half of their programme’s output, is expected shortly.
Price, a mother-of-three, is no stranger to the media spotlight. The model became a tabloid favourite on page three and beyond thanks to her natural curves, which were enhanced by plastic surgery, and high-profile relationships with stars including singer Gareth Gates and Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke.
Her appearance in 2004 on hit reality TV show I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here transfixed viewers as her romance with Australian singer Peter Andre unfolded on television.
Their marriage made them a golden media couple, boosting their wealth and popularity with countless magazine deals, plus a string of hit fly-on-the-wall reality shows, detailing their domestic ups and downs.
Her devoted followers lapped up her many merchandising products, from lingerie lines, jewellery and perfume to equestrian gear and her string of hit novels, children’s books and autobiographies.
However, by early 2009, the cracks in the relationship began to show and the pair announced their separation in May.
As their divorce was finalised, Price had already embarked on a relationship with cagefighter Alex Reid whom she subsequently married in Las Vegas.
