A cameraman has been declared brain dead after being injured during a violent protest in Rio de Janeiro, a Brazilian television station said.
Journalist Santiago Andrade, 49, remains in a coma on life support but doctors have declared him brain dead, Band TV said in a statement.
Andrade was hit in the head by a powerful flare fired during a protest against a 10-cent hike in bus fares in Rio.
Video footage seemed to show that the flare was shot off by protesters. One demonstrator has turned himself into police, though he says he did not shoot the flare, but provided it to another young man who did.
Anti-government protests erupted across Brazil last June. They have diminished in size but remain violent.
