A B2B publisher has launched a new technology and business title with a print version promised for the autumn.
According to editor Alex Wood, Tech City News will be “a mix of Wired and The Economist” and will focus on the interplay between business and technology, particularly in and around London.
The website has been running since January but was officially launched this week. It claims to have had 110,000 page views and 28,000 unique users in its first three months. In April, the site scooped the nationals when it broke the news that David Cameron’s technology adviser Rohan Silva was to leave Number 10.
The print edition, which could launch as early as October, will have a print run of around 10,000 and will have an initial editorial headcount of “three or four” full-time staff, according to Wood.
“As a journalist, I want to grow it as much as possible but we are going to build it slowly,” added Wood, a former Bloomberg TV producer. He said the print title will be aimed at a slightly different audience from the website.
“We believe there hasn’t been a tech title looking at it from a business point of view like this before,” he continued. “What we have found from our research is that there are a lot of people out there who are looking for a print magazine to keep up to date on the technology business.”
The magazine, published by The Publishing Group, has also secured a tie-up with Google to promote and host its ‘Elevator Pitch’ section – a competition for start-up technology companies, currently running on its website.
