Evening Standard gossip maestro Sebastian Shakespeare is preparing to step up as Nigel Dempster mark III at the Daily Mail.
Ten years after he took charge of the Mail gossip page, Axegrinder understands that Richard Kay will imminently be taking on a new ‘editor at large’ role.
Also joining the Mail is number two on Telegraph’s Mandrake diary column Richard Eden who has joined the current exodus from Telegraph towers. Eden will be Shakespeare’s diary number two.
Axdegrinder understands they are working on dummies for a new page ahead of a planned launch next Monday.

Meanwhile, contrary to reports – Daily Telegraph deputy editor Benedict Brogan is still at the Telegraph and continuing with his daily morning email, which arrived as usual this morning.
If there's a Brogan email this morning , it won't be from the Deputy Editor. Not fired, stripped of title and said to be consulting lawyers.
