Rupert Murdoch has declared war on the New York Times by launching a metro section of his Wall Street Journal intended to vie for readers and advertisers with its great rival.
The new section will be available only in the New York City area but the 12 or so pages of sport, news, arts and politics is likely to damage the Times beyond the city limits.
The Associated Press reported yesterday that launch could likely leave the Times with fewer resources for expansion plans if it is forced to fight a war on its home turf.
‘News Corp. said Murdoch, 79, was not available for an interview. But he has been open about his goal of using his media properties to challenge what he considers a left-leaning news establishment in the US,’the AP reported.
