Winehouse video spikes Sun’s web traffic

New ABCe figures out today confirmed the Sun’s claim that its exclusive Amy Winehouse video had significantly spiked traffic to its website.

A week after the Sun splashed with a story based on a video it had obtained which appeared to show singer Winehouse smoking a crack pipe, the paper said 1 million people had watched the video online.

According to ABCe data for January published today, 1,549,168 million unique users visited the Sun Online on Tuesday, 22 January, the day that the Winehouse story broke. Another 1,140,065 million visited the site the following day.

By contrast, the Sun Online recorded around 800,000 unique users on most other weekdays in January.

Overall, the Sun Online just over 13 million monthly unique users in January, a 40 percent year-on-year increase.
