Ever wondered what it would be like to work on News of the World’s Fabulous magazine? Well, wonder no more.
To celebrate publication of the 100th edition this weekend the good people at News International have created a behind-the-scenes ‘webisode’ to document how the magazine is put together.
In addition to a lot of sick-making zoom action, the promo features interviews with editor Sally Eyden and other members of her staff and shows how the mag put together this week’s Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden cover shoot.
In an interview in The Independent today, Eyden reveals that advertising in Fabulous is bucking the market – up 13 per cent year-on-year. However, ad growth was not immediately met with recognition in the fashion industry.
Eyden said: “We had many, many obstacles when we launched Fabulous…because of the perception that comes with The News of the World”.
“It was a struggle,” she added. “Top Shop wouldn’t lend clothes to us at the start, or Warehouse, or Oasis.”
That reticence also extended to fashion photographers.
“People would not want to shoot for us,” Eyden added. “It was a big thing for us when photographers were proud to put their names to the pictures.
‘We know it’s a fantastic product but that shows there is a sea change in perception within the industry of what Fabulous is.”
