UK tech website pitched between Economist and Wired launches with five journalists

By Samuel Osborne

A website featuring news, comment and reviews covering the latest technological innovations has launched this week.

The Memo, which pitches itself between The Economist and Wired, claims to have a team of five editors and 11 freelance journalists.

According to publisher Creative Agenda most of the current editorial team were formerly at the technology website Tech City News.

Creative Agenda is currently looking to hire another two journalists for editorial and video roles.

The site will also publish daily newsletters featuring its own content alongside links to other stories from around the web.

Adviser to The Memo and interim managing director of the Press Association’s Images Division, Turi Munthe, said in a press release: “All too much tech journalism veers between vapid fetishising of anything new, breathless hysteria over valuations, and Apple press releases. Finally, in The Memo we have an online publication dedicated to the UK scene that is truly worthy of its subject.”

Content from The Memo will be syndicated through the Reuters Insider service to a claimed audience of 500,000 analysts, traders, fund and wealth managers – who are said to be "high net worth individuals".

Memo editor-in-chief Alex Wood said: "The Memo delivers in-depth analysis on the important changes happening around us in an exciting new format for the digital age. Our partnership with Reuters gives us a powerful platform to share our content with the global audience of a major and like-minded publication."
