The Times has apologised to Imperial Tobacco after it omitted the crucial word “not” in a report on cigarette price-fixing.
“In Saturday’s report [on a £173m fine for supermarkets and the tobacco firm] the word ‘not’ was omitted in early editions from the sentence: ‘Imperial Tobacco insisted that it had not admitted any infringement of the law.’
“We apologise for the omission,” the paper said today.
