Three young journalists shortlisted for the UK Foreign Press Association Awards

By Darren Boyle

Three young journalists from developing countries have been shortlisted for a prestigious press award.

The reporters, two from Africa and one from India will be flown to London for the UK Foreign Press Association Award

More than 80 journalists submitted a portfolio of work for the awards ceremony on 19 November at the Sheraton Park Hotel.
To be eligible, the journalists had to be aged 30 and under and come from a country with a Gross Domestic Product of less than $20,000 per capita.

The trio, Toyosi Ogunseye, Editor of the Sunday Punch, Nigeria; Judy Kosgei, features reporter for Citizen TV, Kenya and Neha Dixit, freelance journalist from India will spend two nights in London as well as attending the gala dinner.

The award is being sponsored by the Thomson Foundation.

Its chief executive Nigel Baker said: “The standard of entries for this new prize for the Foreign Press Association Awards has been exemplary and the three finalists have all produced compelling and revealing stories about life in their respective societies.

“It will be tough to single out a winner and we have been delighted by the response to the call for entries from across the developing world and to see how journalists are helping to prompt public debate on vital issues.”
