The wind is changing. Take a Break magazine is going into politics

The protracted birth of the Dave and Nick show left the nation chaffing from a painful over-exposure to the rough tongue of politics.

These days a chap can hardly make it to his nearest Morrisons for a fresh Ginsters’ Fiery Cheese Wrap without pulling a dozen giant winces as victim after victim of the election fallout gingerly waddles inside for an extra big pot of salve.

Well, prepare for another lick. Best selling weekly women’s magazine Take a Break is getting in on the act by launching its own political party.

No, you haven’t just read that last sentence incorrectly. The Bauer magazine is offering to put aside those true life tales and come over all Mrs Smith goes to Parliament with the formation of Voices for Women.

Katie Fraser, Take a Break’s agony aunt, launched the party in a storming editorial this week telling readers it had already been registered with the Electoral Commission (here’s the party’s Facebook page).

She’ll act as the party’s spokeswoman while the magazine ‘holds elections to choose three readers to stand in constituencies of their own choice”.

‘This is a time of great political change. Smaller parties like Voices For Women could have a real opportunity to make an impact,’Fraser wrote.

‘What do we stand for in more detail? What about a manifesto? We already have a basis on our Voices for Women webpage.

‘Here hundreds of readers use our Facebook groups to discuss every kind of topic, from children to war, from relationships to cancer. We can build on these.

‘This is our chance to change the future for women, to make our voices not just heard but listened to and acted upon.”
