The Times is only daily newspaper to grow sales year on year in Scotland

The Times Scotland claims to be the only daily newspaper in Scotland to grow its sale year on year.

The Scottish edition of The Times grew 3.8 per cent year on year in April to 19,247, according to ABC.

There was however an increase in Scottish bulk circulation (free copies) of The Times from 555 in April 2014 to 940 last month. The net circulation increase (without bulks) was 1.7 per cent.

Les Snowdon was appointed Scottish editor of The Times in January. Other journalists recently recruited by The Times Scotland include: Kenny Farquharson, Alasdair Reid, Paul Forsyth and Michael Grant.

Times editor John Witherow said: “In this pivotal time for Scottish and British politics The Times is focused on providing the finest journalism to readers new and old across the UK.

“We are pleased to see that The Times is outperforming its rivals in Scotland, as it has been for the past year in the national quality newspaper market.”

In April, The Times also launched a Scottish edition of its Bricks & Mortar weekly property supplement, with dedicated Scottish content.

Times Scotland editor Les Snowdon said:“Our readers expect tailored news, comment and analysis of the events shaping people’s lives in Scotland.

“We have brought in the best writers and developed enhanced sections to deliver the very best of The Times for readers north of the border.”
