The Herts Advertiser raises more than £60,000 in month for cancer boy

By Jun Merrett

A seven year old boy is to receive cancer treatment in Germany thanks to a campaign run by the Herts Advertiser newspaper.

The local paper launched a fundraising campaign less than a month ago and has already reached its £60,000 target of donations from readers.

Freddie Rowe-Crowder will now receive four cycles of antibody treatment in Germany in a process called neuroblastoma.

Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital had given the boy just months to live in September.

Lisa Hobden, family friend and fundraiser marathon leader said: ‘I’d particularly like to thank the Herts Advertiser for taking on this campaign and handling it so sensitevly and getting the message out to a wider audience, which has resulted in some incredibly generous donations from the public.”

She added: ‘Without the Herts Advertiser getting the message out there is no way we would have raised that money.”
