Thai journalist attacked for tough questioning

By Rachael

It looks like Daily Mirror reporter Simon Bird got off lightly with his 52-swear word outburst from Newcastle United caretaker manager Joe Kinnear last week.

Last Thursday a TV journalist in Bangkok was attacked by candidate for Sunday’s governor election after he was ‘provoked by tough questions”. Chuvit Kamolvisit, known as Bangkok’s massage parlour king by the Thai press, punched and kicked journalist Visaran Dilokwanich during a TV interview, and didn’t seem in the slightest bit repentant.

Chuvit, a former bodybuilder, said: ‘I admit I did it. I couldn’t stand it when he humiliated me on air. What I did was a petty crime and I am happy to pay the fine for elbowing him and kicking him.”

Chuvist did not go on to win Sunday’s election.
