Following literary editor Sam Leith being made redundant earlier this week The Daily Telegraph has appointed Brian MacArthur to assistant editor of books.
Leith was made redundant after ten years on the paper as part of ongoing cost cutting at Telegraph Media Group.
MacArthur has been with the paper for three years, having previously worked for The Times and Sunday Times handling book serialisation.
Guy Ruddle, editor of the Telegraph’s online video service Telegraph TV, has had his role expanded and will also head up the pictures department as head of visuals, reporting to deputy editor Tony Gallagher. Ruddle will oversee visual content for online and print, with head of pictures Kim Scott-Clark and head of telegraph TV Sumant Bhatia reporting to him.
Harry De Quetteville has been appointed to the new job of people editor and will be responsible for obituaries, court & social and weather. Obituary editor Andrew McKie was also recently made redundant, as was motoring editor Peter Hall and editor of the telegraph.co.uk environment section Paul Eccleston.
TMG management announced to staff last week that it aims to make 50 editorial redundancies by Christmas.
