Telegraph pays composer ‘£20,000’ after failing to report he was cleared of assault

By admin

The Guardian reports that the Daily Telegraph has paid composer Simon Boswell damages of around £20,0900 after it failed to report that he had been cleared of assaulting his former partner – Lysette Anthony.

The Telegraph apologised to Boswell in Saturday’s edition.

It said:

In an article dated 14 December the Telegraph reported on the trial of Simon Boswell, the BAFTA nominated film composer. This related to a prosecution brought against Mr Boswell following a complaint by his former partner, the actress Lysette Anthony who alleged that Mr Boswell had assaulted her.

The article failed to report that the case against Mr Boswell was dismissed, as was an injunction application by Miss Anthony and Mr Boswell was awarded payment of his legal costs. We apologise for the considerable distress caused to Mr Boswell as a result of this error which was due to an incorrect press agency report. We have agreed to pay Mr Boswell a substantial sum in damages.
