The following story appeared in the April edition of Press Gazette
On a recent visit to the ‘Garden of England’, Axgrinder discovered that Kent Regional News and Media has adopted a curious new tactic in a bid to make their newspapers more ‘local”.
The Chatham district office that was home to Medway News and Medway Standard reporters has now been shut down and staff have been moved a few miles up the road to Gillingham.
How can locals in Rochester and Chatham now get to meet reporters face-to-face? Well, they can go to a library where reporters can now be found at appointed timeslots.
Axegrinder has yet to learn if conversations are conducted by means of exchanged slips of paper or if the librarian lets them speak in whispered tones.
