Spectator article costs City broker her job

By Dominic wireposts

Venetia Thompson – who chronicled the excesses of life in the City for the Spectator – reveals in the Telegraph today how the article led to her losing her job as a broker.

The human resource department at her company were, she says, most concerned about the references she made to violence and racism in her piece.

She writes today: “Pulling a colleague off their chair in a headlock, calling someone a “Ferg” or “wiki”, hurling a keyboard in fury, or getting so drunk at lunchtime that you have you car keys wrestled away from you are, is seems, all acceptable forms of behaviour. Writing it about it is apparently gross misconduct.”
