South Wales Echo remembers Islwyn Evans

Former South Wales Echo journalist Islwyn Evans has died at the age of 82, his former paper reports.

He started his career as a cub reporter on the Maesteg Advertiser after leaving school at of 14. He later worked on the Glamorgan Gazette and served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War before joining the Echo in the 1950s to cover news and sport in the Mid Glamorgan and Swansea. He remained as a sub at the Echo’s head office in Cardiff until his retirement.
