Richard Norton-Taylor leaves Guardian staff after 38 years

By Sam Brodbeck

The Guardian  reports today that one of its longest-serving staffers, security affairs editor Richard Norton-Taylor, will be leaving his full-time role.

Norton-Taylor has been at the paper for 38 years, since January 1973, and the announcement made by editor Alan Rusbridger coincides with his 67th birthday, Roy Greenslade reports.

He quotes Rusbridger saying: ‘He’s a terrific reporter – trusted, knowledgeable, wise and properly sceptical. I’m delighted to say that his experience is not going to be lost to us: he’ll continue to work part time, writing news, comment and analysis.”

As well as being a journalist, Norton-Taylor has written a number of plays based on current events – such as the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the investigation into the death of David Kelly. Norton has said he won’t be retiring but plans to carry on writing.
