Former Times legal manager Alastair Brett has reportedly said he hopes Lord Leveson will call him in to account for his actions during the Nightjack case.
Brett was subject to much implied criticism in testimony from Times editor James Harding yesterday. The inquiry heard that The Times had failed to tell Mr Justice Eady that it had illegally hacked the email of police blogger Nightjack, Richard Horton, thereby allowing it to overturn an interim privacy gagging order in 2009.
Harding said he was told nothing about the legal hearing until after it had taken place and the paper was awaiting judgment.
A “friend” of Brett told the Evening Standard: “Alastair has a completely clean consience…he still does not believe he should have dropped Patrick [Foster, the reporter] in it.”
