Two people have been arrested in connection with Operation Elveden the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.
Operation Elveden is investigating claims that journalists had made corrupt payments to public officials for information.
A 55-year-old man was arrested at a ferry terminal on the Isle of Wight on suspicion of conspiracy to cause misconduct in public office. The man is understood to be a tutor.
A 55-year-old woman was also arrested at her home on the Isle of Wight on suspicion of misconduct in public office and conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office. The woman is understood to be a retired prison official.
The pair are the 81st and 82nd people to have been arrested as part of Operation Elveden and are currently being questioned at Newport Police station.
Detectives from the investigation are currently searching the couple’s home.
Further officers are continuing investigations into phone-hacking as part of Operation Weeting and computer-hacking under Operation Tuleta.
UPDATE
The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that the couple has been released on bail until mid March pending further enquiries. Officers have completed searching their home on the Isle of Wight.
