Sunday Times nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu was released on Sunday after being jailed for 11 weeks after being charged with meeting foreign journalists.
Vanunu was released in April 2004 after serving 18 years for blowing the whistle to the Sunday Times about Israel’s secret illegal nuclear weapons programme.
Former Sunday Times journalist Peter Hounam obtained the first interview with Vanunu after his release, using an Israeli intermediary to circumvent a ban on him speaking to foreign journalists. Among the new indictments against Vanunu was one stating that he had spoken to Sky’s Adam Boulton.
Vanunu said upon his release: “All this harassing me and arresting me again and again is Israel’s problem, not my problem.”
