Nick Clegg ‘backs investigation into Coulson’s reign at NoW’

By admin

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg yesterday gave his backing for a full independent investigation into allegations of phone hacking at the News of The World while its was edited by the Government’s communications director Andy Coulson.

Clegg said it was “totally legitimate” for the Director of Public Prosecutions to undertake a review of all material collected by Scotland Yard linked to the phone hacking scandal.

The Deputy Prime Minster’s words, which were reported by The Independent newspaper, came just hours after David Cameron offered his backing to Coulson.

Cameron told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme yesterday that he backed Coulson, who was “embarrassed” by the continuing row. However, the Prime Minster failed to respond to questions about Coulson offering his resignation.
