Newsquest promotes Dorset group editor Toby Granville to editorial development director

By Emilio Casalicchio

Toby Granville, editor of Newsquest Dorset, has been promoted to editorial development director at the regional media group.

His role will include working with editors around the country for the company, which has over 300 titles in its portfolio.

The appointment is part of a newsroom transformational plan, positioning Newsquest's titles for a multi-platform future, according to Hold the Front Page.

Granville said: "These are challenging but exciting times for regional media. Clearly the future is multi-platform and we need to transform our newsrooms so we can provide the highest quality content first, fast and best.”

Currently overseeing papers including the Bournemouth Echo and Dorset Echo, Granville joined Newsquest in 2002 as editor of the Wiltshire Times. He then held editorial roles at the Oxford Mail and Dorset Echo before taking the group editor role in 2011.

Previously to his time at Newsquest he worked at the Sunday People and and as editor of The Wharf, which won the UK Regional Press Free Weekly Newspaper of the Year award while he was in the role.

Henry Faure Walker, chief executive of Newsquest, said: “This exciting new appointment is an important part of our editorial plans as we seek to continually improve and innovate the way we publish the best local content both in print and online.
