News International staff get 3.8 per cent pay deal

By Patrick

Staff at News International’s four national newspapers will receive a 3,8 per cent pay offer from 1 July. The deal was struck with management and the News International Staff Association (NISA) which represents staff in the non-unionised company.

Last year management agreed on a four per cent rise and a £679 bonus, linked to company profits. The bonus will be given again this and is set to continue until 2009.

Employees of News Magazines, which publishes Sky magazine, and free daily thelondonpaper willl not receive the bonus,

The figure is above average for newspaper pay offers presently – Telegraph Media Group gave staff three per cent this year, as did Express Newspapers, though the NUJ chapel at the Guardian successfully negotiated a 4.8 per cent pay rise to bring the minimum salary for most journalists to £30,000.
