The National Association of News Agencies (NAPA) has said a scheme to introduce automated payment for agency copy is unworkable, after discussing the idea with newspapers.
NAPA’s vice chairman Chris Johnson tells Journalism.co.uk that the system, whereby agencies would be automatically notified when a client uses their copy allowing them to charge for its use, was too large.
Johnston said such a scheme was needed because some publishers feel that one payment allows them to use stories multiple times.
