New York Times paywall to go live in January

By admin

The New York Times will begin charging for access to articles on its website in January 2011, the Wall Street Journal reveals in a report.

Plans for paid access to the Grey Lady were announced earlier this year. Bill Keller, executive editor of the New York Times, confirmed the date for launch at a Foreign Press Association dinner, in New York on Thursday, as he outlined a few further details of how its paywall would work.

He said:

“Those who mainly come to the website via search engines or links from blogs, and those who only come sporadically – in short, the bulk of our traffic – may never be asked to pay at all. People who have print subscriptions will get full website access without charge.”
