New Scotland editor at The Sunday Times

By admin

The Sunday Times’ Scottish political editor Jason Allardyce has been appointed Scotland editor.

Allmediascotland reports it’s the first time the paper has had a Scotland editor since a redundancy round two years ago that saw almost three-quarters of its staff leave the paper.

Allardyce, who will continue to cover politics, told allmediascotland.com:

We’ve had a clutch of big agenda-setting Scottish exclusives so far this year, ranging from revealing the Scottish independence referendum will be in autumn 2014 – coinciding with the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn – to Michelle Mone’s first interview on the break up of her 19-year marriage and a Craig Whyte interview which revealed that Rangers could shortly go into administration a matter of weeks before this turned out to be the case.

Meanwhile, the website also reports that the Scotland editor of The Times, Magnus Linklater, is to step down.

The 70-year-old is next week leaving the paper after 18 years, the last five as editor. While the paper has yet to name a successor allmediascotland speculates that Scottish political editor Angus Macleod is likely to succeed Linklater.
