Chief executive of Natmags, Duncan Edwards, has responded to comments made by Elle editor Lorraine Candy in last week’s Press Gazette, in which she suggested that Cosmopolitan’s circulation had seen a decline due to the increasing number of weekly titles.
Writing to Press Gazette, he said:
Congratulations to Lorraine Candy on her brave and uncompromising relaunch of Elle this month as reported in your issue of 11th January; it looks terrific.
I don’t mean to be picky, but I have to correct the point that Lorraine made about Cosmopolitan’s circulation being ‘hit’ in recent times. Cosmo’s current ABC is 450,952, a little ahead of where it was at the same time in 2000. Cosmo has in fact been the only magazine in the sector to have maintained sales over this period and rumour has it, might show some real growth when the next ABC results are revealed in February. This, in no small part, is the result of having the most brilliant editors working on the title, of which, of course, Lorraine was one!
Yours faithfully,
Duncan Edwards
