MPs want answers over C4 journalist ransom claims

By paulmcnally

A cross-party group of MPs is preparing to grill Channel 4 chief executive Andy Duncan in the autumn over claims the broadcaster paid a £150,000 ransom to secure the release of kidnapped Dispatches journalist Sean Langan from Afghanistan.

According to the Mail on Sunday, the chair of the Commons media select committee, John Whittingdale, has said he will be seeking answers from Duncan, and is concerned that “the paying of ransoms sets an extremely dangerous precedent”. Channel 4 has refused to comment on the story.
