More than 50,000 sign Indy petition to save life of Afghan journalist

By Dominic wireposts

The Independent has scored a breakthrough in its campaign to save the life of Afghan journalism student Sayed Pervez Kambaksh – sentenced to death for blasphemy.

It reported that the Afghan senate has withdrawn its confirmation of the death sentence hanging him – but he still has to appeal through the court system against his sentence.

The Independent reports today that more than 20 international lobby groups came together at the weekend to petition the Afghan government for the repeal of the death penalty on Kambaksh.

So far more than 50,000 readers have signed the Indy’s petition calling for the death sentence to bee lifted.
