Trinity Mirror has again confirmed interest in a nationwide to rollout of hyperlocal websites like “Gazette Communities” at the Evening Gaxette in Teeside.
At the Evening Gazette, the network of local sites has a successful set of reverse-published local newspapers and a clutch of awards for the paper.
Similar initiatives could be rolled out at other newspapers, Trinity Mirror regional managing director Georgina Harvey told the Guardian at yesterday’s Newspaper Society Local Matters conference.
Trinity Mirror has been considering launching further hyperlocal sites since at least last August. A nationwide rollout was first suggested last October.

The local sites are run on the Movable Type blogging platform which is also used by several of the group’s smaller weeklies as their main web sites. At several Trinity Mirror dailes, the blogging platform been used to create niche business sections rather than geographically-subdivided sites aimed at specific postcodes, the approach taken by the Teeside pilot.
Newsquest’s Glasgow Evening Times recently launched a similar network of postcode-level sites.
