More BBC World Service jobs to be moved overseas

By paulmcnally

The BBC World Service is looking to close 15 London posts on its African French-language operation at the end of this year and replace them with 18 posts in Senegal.

It follows a similar move at the broadcaster’s South Asia division. New World Service director Peter Horrocks said “all reasonable steps” would be taken to avoid compulsory redundancies.

In a memo seen by MediaGuardian.co.uk, he told staff: “We believe these changes will strengthen our presence in Africa, will raise the quality of our output and will put the future of BBC Afrique on a more secure footing.”
