Modesty rules at Evening Standard

By Axegrinder

The Evening Standard has published a special supplement identifying London’s 1,000 most influential people and it’s fascinating more for who isn’t included than for who is.

Is it a curious oversight or an act of extreme modesty that has resulted in Standard editor Veronica Wadley and reporter Andrew Gilligan failing to make the list?

Few would deny that the result of this year’s vote for London Mayor was influenced by Wadley’s decision to publish endless articles by Gilligan critical of Ken Livingstone. Yet Wadley and Gilligan are deemed less influential than the likes of glamour model/celebrity author Katie Price and potty-mouthed restaurant critic Giles “porn” Coren.

Curiously, while their editor fails to make the list, included are Standard restaurant critic Fay Maschler and theatre critic Nicholas de Jongh.
