Men’s magazines and titles specialising in celebrity news performed badly in the last six months, circulation figures due to be released at noon today are expected to show.
Bauer’s Heat and Closer, along with IPC’s Now are among those predicted to suffer year-on-year circulation drops of as much as 10 per cent, according to a preview of today’s ABC reports in the Times.
Men’s magazines are also expected to suffer, with one source telling the Times that Bauer’s FHM will be down around 15 per cent year-on-yar, but up slightly over the last half-yearly figures. IPC’s Nuts is expected to be down about 7 per cent while Bauer’s Zoo is predicted to be down about 10 per cent. More upmarket titels like GQ are expected to perform better.
Magazines from Richard Desmond’s Northern & Shell stable — OK!, New and Star — are expected to buck the downward trend in the celebrity sector by showing significant circulation rises. Bauer’s weekly fashion glossy Grazia is also expected to announce a circulation increase.
