Two men who led a “bungled and amateurish” plot to blackmail a royal and sell the tapes to a string of tabloid papers have been jailed for five years each, the Guardian reports.
Ian Strachan, 31, and Sean McGuigan, 41, had approached the News of the World, Sun, Daily Express and publicist Max Clifford with the tapes containing allegations of sex acts and cocaine-taking, but they were rejected.
According to the Guardian, only four journalists were admitted for parts of the hearing at London’s Old Bailey on Friday.
