Magazines accused of failing to represent black models

By paulmcnally

Magazines are partly to blame for the lack of black models in the British fashion industry, according to a leading modelling agent.

The Independent has added up the number of black models appearing in the latest issues of Vogue, Marie Claire and Glamour. Vogue’s 400-page issue has 14 pictures of black women. Marie Claire has eight, and Glamour has four.

Agent Carole White tells the paper: “According to the magazines, black models don’t sell.”
