Austerity is the theme of this year’s London Press Club Ball.
BBC Breakfast presenter Kate Silverton will host the event and Bargain Hunt’s James Braxton will conduct the auction where a special edition Mini Cooper Mayfair car will be the top prize.
Organisers of the ball have acknowledged the economic climate by cutting ticket prices with the aim of maximising funds for the Journalists’ Charity.
The austerity theme will include invitations in the form of post-war ration books, posters reflecting the style of official Government announcements of the late 1940s and early 1950s as well as bread and butter pudding and traditional steak pie on the menu.
The patron of this year’s Ball is Sly Bailey, chief executive of Trinity Mirror.
Key supporters include Associated Newspapers, News International, Telegraph Group, The Guardian and Mirror Group.
To capitalise on its growing success, the Ball has also established an honorary committee of ‘ambassadors’ to help promote the event.
They include Piers Morgan, Alastair Campbell, Sir Nicholas Lloyd, Mark Bolland, Kelvin MacKenzie, Guy Black, and last year’s host Jeremy Vine.
The ball will take place on Thursday 15 October at the Brewery in Chiswell Street, London EC1.
