Twenty-year-old Sophia Kichou has won the Breaking Into News competition run by ITV News and the Media Trust.
The judging panel, which included Mark Austin, chose Kichou for her report on homelessness in London.
All six finalists receieved mentoring and support from broadcast journalists in the ITV newsroom, who helped with writing, presenting and production skills.
Kichou was mentored by ITV News features editor Nicolette Amette. She said: “Sophia’s enthusiasm is totally contagious. She’ll go far in her chosen profession and we are lucky that it is ours.”
Austin added: “Sophia is a worthy winner. Her report on the young homeless in London gave us a real insight into this problem. She displayed a genuine passion for her subject.”
Kichouhas will now have the opportunity to work with the ITV News at Ten crew for a day. Her report is available for view here and will also be broadcasted on ITV London Tonight.
