Upmarket men’s monthly, GQ, will follow Condé Nast stablemate Vogue and launch an Indian edition later this year.
Nicholas Coleridge, vice president of Condé Nast International, said: ‘Indian Vogue rapidly dominated the women’s magazine market, far surpassing expectations in both circulation and advertising. It has given us the confidence to start a second title, and GQ is the logical choice.”
Sanjiv Bhattacharya, who has written for British GQ, has been appointed editor of GQ India. Sanjiv worked first as features and then contributing editor in the UK, and has spent the last 8 years in Los Angeles. He has written for the Los Angeles Times, Marie Claire, the Daily Telegraph and the Observer and has presented an investigative documentary for Channel Four in the UK.
Brendan Allthorpe joins the title from GQ in Russia as art director and CJ Kurrien has been appointed senior editor, having previously worked at Reuters as a correspondent. Copy editor of Vogue India, Iain Ball has been appointed features editor.
