Future will publish the final edition of US title Nintendo power magazine in December.
A spokesperson for Nintendo told the arstechnica.com website:
Nintendo can confirm that Future US will end the production of Nintendo Power magazine with the last issue slated for December 2012.
Nintendo Power magazine is closing and is not moving to a new publisher.
Nintendo Power is reportedly one of the longest-running games magazines in the US, where it was first published in 1988.
It was published by Nintendo until 2007, when it was outsourced to Future.
Sources told Ars Technica that Nintendo was always “difficult to work with” and ‘was uninterested in renewing that contract or in taking part in a number of digital initiatives that Future saw as necessary for the long-term health of the brand”.
According to Future, the magazine has a monthly readership of 475,000.
A statement on the nintendopower.com website said:
Nintendo Power’s last issue will be the December 2012 issue, which will be mailed to subscribers in late November and sold on newsstands starting December 4.
